Career Cafe Flyer

Adobe Illustrator

GOAL: Create a flyer that works in both print and digital to advertise a special student resume review event for University of the Pacific's Career Resource Center.

APPROACH: This piece is a remake of an earlier flyer that I made when I worked at the Career Resource Center. UoP has updated its brand identity as of June 2020, and I wanted to remake the flyer using the new design standards.

SOLUTION: I decided to showcase how far my illustration skills have improved since I made the previous flyer, so I made the colors and illustration the focal point of the image. I wanted to make the flyer look cosy and welcoming, so that a student would be put at ease by a potentially stressful resume review.

Process

I liked the coffee mug that I drew for the original image, but I wanted to update it with a better color palette and to make the mug look more student friendly (no plate underneath the mug). I used UoP's style guide for the color palette and typefaces, and drew the mug by hand in Illustrator. I wanted the yellow to look like sunlight filtering in through a window, so I used UoP linework to emphasize that.

The final before colors were added. You can see the paths I used in Illustrator for the coffee mug.
